Points: A Socially-Powered, Interactive Street Sign

I just read about this really cool new product called Points. It’s a socially-powered, interactive street sign to point people in the right direction, no matter what they’re looking for. Points is a permanent or temporary solution, depending on the location and is designed for areas that have a large group of people who may not be familiar with that area. Some of the examples given are large cities, shows and festivals, amusement parks, sporting events, and the list goes on. Once you start thinking about how the technology could be used, you realize how uses these signs could actually have.

The interactive signs actually have menus that change depending on the time of day. In the morning, the signs could point you towards a popular breakfast spot while in the evening, it could send you to a top-notch steakhouse for dinner. I’m not sure if you caught that, but the most interesting thing about these signs is that they actually move at 360 degrees and can point you in whichever direction you need to go. These are the first of their kind, a completely interactive street sign. The signs are also in communication with social networks and weather information, giving you real-time data on multiple events and locations. I’ve included a video below because seeing one of these in action gives you more of an appreciation for the product and helps you see exactly how powerful they are. What do you think? Pretty awesome, right?
