Design Inspiration: A 1990 Boy’s World Illustrations

Design Inspiration: Robots and Girls

Today’s first design inspiration is a series of illustrations from Rod Hunt. These illustrations look like they’ve been created by a teenage boy circa 1990. They scream that sort of masculine idea set and a sort of refined immaturity that most males have at a younger age. The play on words, the composition of each piece, it all just seems to work as a cohesive set. They also just have this retro feel to them, whether it’s the style of clothes on the characters, the typography selection, use of flames or the entire color scheme, it just seems to take me back in time.

With names like ‘Hot F**king Ice Creams’ (pictured below), ‘Abolish Automation’ and ‘Bye Bye Polar’ I couldn’t help but to look at the set for a good 15 minutes, trying to take in all of the elements that made each illustration work. I didn’t include them all and there are some good ones, so please head over to the project page and take a look at the rest for yourself.
